Greenfield is the county seat of Hancock County, Indiana and is located in the Indianapolis metro area. The population was 20,602 at the 2010 census, and is projected to reach 23,006 by 2019. Greenfield is situated in Center Township.
Tuttle Orchards
Families in the Indianapolis area love to visit Tuttle Orchards, which is home to more than 50 varieties of apples, pumpkins, and other fruits and vegetables. The farm also hosts many family events throughout the year, including apple picking and pumpkin patches.
The 200-acre farm has been operating for over 90 years and boasts over 8,000 apple trees. Wooden Bear Brewing Co. is the first craft brewery in Greenfield, Indiana. It opened in 2014 and has been steadily making its mark on the far east side of the Indianapolis. When the company needed a website to showcase their beer and capture draft account opportunities, they came to CODO Design for help. CODO Design developed a custom website for Wooden Bear based on WordPress and incorporated their branding.
The taproom at Wooden Bear features an outdoor wood-fired grill, Edison lighting, and bear-themed decor. The restaurant blends rustic with refined, and the outdoorsy feel is offset by urban accents. The menu offers a mix of traditional brews and craft connoisseur favorites.
The Wooden Bear brewery is located in the historic downtown district of Greenfield, Indiana. The brewery opened in early April 2014 in a historic building that had previously been the Gant Opera House. The building has undergone many transformations since it was originally built in 1898. Before becoming a brewery, it was a furniture warehouse and an auto repair shop. During its time as a brewery, it was transformed into a taproom with a rustic, artisanal style. The taproom features five house beers and a rotating guest tap.
Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield

The Riley Boyhood Home is a must-see for anyone who loves history, literature, midwestern culture, and old homes. The house highlights the boyhood life of James Whitcomb Riley and the life of his family. While he grew up in a small town, he knew firsthand the dangers that small towns can bring. He had a daughter who died at age four, and knew of other families who lost children. He also knew what it was like to be alone even among adoring crowds.
The Riley Boyhood Home is one of the best things to do in Greenfield, Indiana. This mid-19th century house is home to a museum and is managed by the Riley Old Home Society. Visitors can learn about Riley’s life through his writings and view some of his possessions. There’s also a gift shop and a kitchen where visitors can sample food from Riley’s famous grandmother.
You can also spend time outdoors in Riley Park. The park is located off National Road (Main Street) and is the largest green space in Hancock County. This park also features Chapel in the Park and the Old Log Jail Museum. Both are located at 28 Apple St., and are open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
Reuben Riley, an attorney, became a politician and was elected to the state legislature at age 26. The city has a statue of him standing outside his boyhood home. The museum is next door.
Carnegie’s Restaurant
Carnegie’s Restaurant in the historic Carnegie Library is one of the best places to visit in the Greenfield area. The restaurant offers seasonal dishes and patio dining. It is a New American eatery and features a large outdoor seating area. Carnegie’s also hosts live music and other events.
The atmosphere at Carnegie’s Cafe is intimate, and patrons enjoy their food and service. The restaurant features a variety of items on the menu, from steaks to fresh seafood. The food is also prepared on site, and many items are gluten free and low-fat. Carnegie’s also has a private dining room, perfect for hosting a party. The restaurant is also family-friendly, with several tables available outside.
