Best Places to Visit in Linden, New Jersey

Linden is a city in Union County, New Jersey. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area and is about 13 miles south of Manhattan. It borders the borough of Staten Island. The population is approximately 43,738 as of the 2020 census.

Thomas Edison Historical Park

Thomas Edison is best known as the “Wizard of Menlo Park.” Located in West Orange, New Jersey, this park features a museum that celebrates Edison’s life and works. The Menlo Park Edison Museum showcases his first organized research and development laboratory and attracts visitors from 63 different countries. In 2019, it had visitors from all 50 states. It’s a must-see for those who enjoy history and innovation.

Thomas Edison National Historical Park is a preserving of the residence and laboratories where Edison lived and worked from 1886 to 1931. The park is self-guided and includes the inventor’s laboratory, stockroom, machine shops, and music room. Visitors can tour two floors of the main laboratory building.

Another great place to visit in Linden is the Hawk Rise Sanctuary. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset and has a range of trails and places to study nature. Visitors can also take guided tours of the park. There are plenty of campgrounds nearby for RVs and camping.

Roselle was the first village in the world to be illuminated by Thomas Edison’s incandescent light bulb. The First National Bank on Chestnut Street also opened the first drive-in window. In 1956, the Roselle Lanes bowling alley became the first in the country to install Brunswick Automatic Pin-setter machines. The Watson-Stillman hydraulic works on Aldene Road was home to the first Bathysphere. And the Cavalier Jouet home still stands on East Second Avenue.

Liberty Science Center

Located within the Liberty State Park, the Liberty Science Center is an interactive learning center and science museum. In addition to a number of hands-on exhibits, the center features a planetarium, which is the fourth largest in the world. The museum is open daily for the public, and admission is free. The Liberty State Park is a park that spans 1,212 acres. The park also has a waterfront promenade walk and views of the Hudson River. There are also several historical sites and museums in the area. A couple of the most popular are Six Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari. You can also visit the Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial and the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal.

Hawk Rise Sanctuary

Joseph Medwick Park

This park is also home to the first WOR AM radio station in New Jersey. This radio station served New York City, Trenton, and Philadelphia. The park was acquired by Middlesex County in 1970 and underwent extensive renovations. Today, it is the largest recreational facility in Carteret. You can enjoy sports and other activities at the Sports Complex, located on Pauline Street.

Nearby cities Carteret and Linden have recreational parks that you can visit. While it is not as picturesque as Rahway River Park, Joseph Medwick Park offers a lot to visitors. It features expansive baseball and football fields and tennis courts. It is a great place for active people and is popular with families and locals. It is also a great place to enjoy a picnic.

Another great place to visit is the Ernest L. Oros Wildlife Preserve, which is about 15 minutes away. Here, you’ll find lots of birds, snakes, and turtles. It is a hidden gem that many people don’t even know exists.
