Cheverly is a town located in Maryland near Washington, D.C., though it is not directly bordered by the city. It was incorporated in 1931 and is home to about 6,170 residents. There are many things to do in Cheverly, from hiking in the Cheverly Hills to enjoying the town’s community garden.

Chesterly, Maryland has a number of dog-friendly activities for your dog to enjoy. For instance, the town is home to Saint Pete’s Trail, which is open to both humans and dogs. The 2.2-mile path hugs a creek and leads up a mountain. Dogs can run freely and enjoy the beautiful scenery. This trail is also an excellent opportunity to socialize with other dogs.

Many campgrounds and state parks in the area are dog-friendly. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources offers several pet-friendly campsites and full service cabins. Kilmer Park

Kilmer Park and Arboretum is located in Cheverly, Maryland. The park was dedicated to the community in April 2021 and is a place for quiet relaxation, education and connection to nature. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk. Visitors to Chesterfield can take advantage of the park’s amenities and enjoy a scenic stroll or bike ride.

The park is located near the Port of Chestertown Marina and is convenient to downtown Chesterfield. A recently completed playground at Wilmer Park will feature activity features for children ages two to twelve. The playground is fully compliant with American with Disabilities Act and playground safety standards. The town received a grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources of $209,394 for the project.

Community garden

If you are interested in growing your own produce, a community garden is a great solution. These gardens are open to anyone who would like to participate. In Chesterly, Maryland, there are two locations where you can join. You can sign up for a full-sized plot, which is 20′ by 20′, or a half-sized plot, which is 10′ by 10′. Joining the Community Garden is inexpensive and you can even bring your family! However, children under the age of 18 should be supervised and pets are not allowed in the garden area. You must also commit to volunteering at least one day during the spring or fall.

Community gardens can also be a fun and educational experience. One location in Chesterly, Maryland, is the Melton Center, which has four gardens. Three of them are dedicated to school activities, but one is open to the public. The bounty from this garden is earmarked for local food production and fighting food insecurity. The food harvested from the garden is given to the WCU Resource Pantry and West Chester Food Cupboard.

Another location is the Our West End Garden, which is located across from W. Gay Street from the St. Agnes parking lot. This space used to be home to an abandoned water tower, but residents of the area worked together in 2009 to save the land and build raised beds. Today, the garden is Chesterly’s largest and longest-running community garden. Almost every plot has been filled since it started in 2009.

Community gardens are not only beautiful, they are also a great way to connect with neighbors. Dig In is a nonprofit organization that brings together volunteers from the area. The project aims to feed the mind, body, and spirit. Dig In’s mission is to cultivate a sense of community and belonging.
